The Problem
Cross-platform app development is often a difficult undertaking but is also extremely enjoyable and rewarding, especially when working on a cross-platform mobile game. The team at UniWar wanted to develop a cross-platform mobile game app that would allow users to enter into a world where there was an enduring battle between different factions for dominance over a galaxy.
The creative team behind UniWar, Spooky House Studios UG, wanted to create a fair, fun, and challenging classic, turn-based strategy game for their fans. The game would be free to play but also offer in-game purchases that would enhance the gameplay but never change the mechanics of the game making it unfair for people who didn’t want to purchase in-game items.
The game needed to be easily customizable for the gamers. They wanted UniWar players to be able to choose a number of different things to enhance their game. Players of UniWar needed to be able to choose the race they would play as, the time limit for turns, and if they wanted to play as part of a team or on their own.
With so many choices, the development of this cross-platform mobile app game was going to be challenging. This is why they turned to Idea Maker for help. Idea Maker is a top boutique Orange County software development company, with special experience in cross-platform app development and expertise in building cross-platform mobile apps.
Our Solution
Idea Maker’s team of expert cross-platform app developers wanted the team at Spooky House Studios UG to create a successful and popular mobile app game for their end-users. We wanted UniWar to be fun, fair, and competitive. The first thing that we did to ensure that the mobile game would be successful is to choose a development language that would work well to include all the features that the game needed to be engaging and fun.
Idea Maker chose to build the cross-platform mobile app game in Java. We believed that this would allow the best possible player experience for the gamers that downloaded UniWar. Coding the game was challenging but successful. Through our tested app development process, we were able to allow players to solo play through over 30 different missions.
Uniwar is also able to accept team-based gameplay and user-generated maps. Idea Maker was able to build in the option to play with teams as small as two players to as large as four players against teams of similar sizes. The development of this cross-platform mobile app game was successful. Uniwar is rated at 4.4 out of 5 stars in the Google Play Store and 4.6 out of 5 stars on the Apple App Store.
What We Did
Team Gameplay
Using a Java-based build for the Uniwar cross-platform app game development project, Idea Maker was able to institute team gameplay. Playing strategy games with others is always fun and we wanted the game that Spooky House Studios UG created to be fun to play for hours on end. In addition to solo play, players can also play on teams of between 2 to 4 players creating a fun and challenging atmosphere for the cross-platform mobile app.
User-Generated Content
Spooky House Studios UG wanted their game to be unique and fun for all players. To help them allow for fun at all levels, Idea Maker helped to enable the ability for users to create their own maps within the game. This ability has helped keep UniWar a highly-rated and fan-favorite game with over 50,000 user-generated maps to date.
