Great ideas for social contact belong on the web, that first natural step in making these a reality is partnering with a custom mobile app development team. When the I Am Available app creator couldn’t sleep in the middle of the night, she wished she could figure out which her friends were up and able to chat at that crazy hour.
The first step after her epiphany was partnering with a team for the development process needed to make this idea a reality. Instead of wallowing in the frustrations of insomnia, she got to work brainstorming ideas and created the concept for I Am Available.

People who work jobs that are not 9-5 often find it hard to socialize because they keep schedules that are not the norm. With the I Am Available app, users are able to mark themselves as available for chat or social interaction and connect with others who are available at non-traditional times. This app required a custom mobile app development team to take the lead to make it a reality.
If the development team could make it happen, this app could be essential in restoring some normality to the lives of people like grocery workers, nurses, first responders, wait staff, factory workers, and more. The cruel reality of working a swing or night shift is that your social life is nearly non-existent. This app would bring the possibility to connect to people who work similar shifts and want to socialize too. The project had so many different aspects that it would need a team dedicated to the custom mobile app development process, with plenty of experience working with challenges of this caliber.
Our Solution
Partnering closely with Idea Maker, the I Am Available team was able to coordinate and create features that aren’t available in other popular social media platform apps. This new app concept would allow people to connect and build relationships that might not otherwise be possible if the users didn’t know the other person was available.
The idea behind this concept was that someone could mark themselves as available with a geotag, and other users or friends could see that they were open to chat or hang out with them, despite the odd hours. Sometimes, you just need to hit an all-night diner for coffee and chat with a friend. Other times, you just need someone to text back and forth for a while you’re awake. Studies show that night-shift workers tend to struggle with mental health issues more because of the lack of social connection.
With the recent health situation of our country, reconnecting to people is a critical part of reclaiming our happiness. Creating this kind of app doesn’t just allow for meetups, but for video chats and phone calls that would be hard to coordinate without the assistance of this app. Normal people don’t answer phone calls at 4 am, but if you can check with your friend to make sure they are available, that call isn’t quite so rude.
What We Did
Custom Mobile App Development
Idea Maker designed a custom app for Android and iOS platforms to integrate the I Am Available concept in a practical and easy-to-learn program. Now users can set up pods and communities to communicate with when they’re available to chat, even when it’s not a “normal” time to be up.
User-Friendly Dashboard
The dashboard created in the app allows for individual customization and sorting of friends into groups or pods. You can choose to mark yourself as available to some people while remaining unavailable to others. The programming of the app is intuitive and easy to learn.
