The Problem
Our client encountered an issue many manufacturing companies experience on a daily basis: How can they efficiently report production line and workflow errors to superiors while maintaining accountability? As a result, our client approached us looking for a social-media style mobile application that would allow them to track the progress of their manufacturing projects.
Our Solution
After reviewing our clients requirements, we decided the best solution was to build an Instagram-like mobile application that enables employees to publicly report production errors. This meant building a mobile app for internal use with social features such as liking, commenting, and uploading photos to a feed.
What We Did
Social Features
We created a social-media style feed that allows users to publicly upload photos of the production line. Users can then comment and react to posts with emojis or even respond to posts with additional videos and images. We also leveraged native notification capabilities to prompt users when new images are posted or when users interact with posts.
Project Creation
Production projects can be uploaded to the system manually or imported using a text file. When users upload posts, they can choose which project the image corresponds with, along with tags denoting progress. This helps admins and managers monitor the status of manufacturing projects.
User Management
Unlike typical social media platforms, we created a user management system that enables admins to create and invite user accounts while deleting them and changing permissions when needed. This means that, as employees come and go, managers can update their teams accordingly, keeping internal information secure.
Admin Web App
While regular users have access to the mobile application version of the platform, we also built a web app for managers to ensure effective management of the platform. With this feature, admins can conveniently upload projects, create tags and posts, and manage user accounts.
